For years, I’ve dreamed of learning to Scuba dive and 2006 was the year to make the dream come true. And let me tell you, it ain’t as simple as Mike Nelson made it look.  First off, you have to study a book and a DVD to learn about the equipment and safety requirements.  Most of everything you study is how to stay alive if something goes wrong.  The biggest, most oft repeated safety tip comes right off the cover of “Hitchhiker’s Guide”...DON’T PANIC!  Very close behind is my favorite thing to keep in mind is...BREATHE.

So, instead of dragging you through the whole process, let it be known we passed the land/pool course and chose St. Thomas for the open water certification dives.  Thanks to Jeff Swack, we had a comfy place to stay.

As you enjoy these pictures, keep a couple things in mind.  If diving, make sure your camera has a flash.  Carefully study your maps so when you get lost, and you will, you can figure out where you are.  Our second dive, see appropriate picture, was a walk-in from a local beach.

Enjoy!
